Memorial Weekend 2009

Well I can surely say that Memorial weekend 2009 was quite memorable. I have yet to figure out how I put my back out on that Saturday, but I did, and it left me miserable for the remainder of the weekend. I don't think I've have ever anticipated a doctor's appointment as much as I did for my 6pm chiropractor appointment on that Tuesday. After Jeff finished some garden work and yard work on Saturday, I spent the majority of the weekend flat on my back in bed. Thank goodness there was a Jon and Kate + 8 marathon on to keep me entertained.
On Sunday evening we visited my parents like we usually do. We were planning to do s'mores in their fire pit but they didn't have any of those starter log things so plan B was to use the grill. And it worked pretty well! I put Kaitlyn to bed around 930pm that night and Jeff headed back to work at that time to get some extra machine hours in while K and I were asleep. It turned out that Kaitlyn spiked a fever around 11pm and woke up miserable. I hadn't even attempted to lift her since my back was so sore but I knew I didn't have a choice at that time. I was so glad when we reached the couch and I could lay her down; I was so worried I'd get a muscle spasm and drop her! She let me put cool cloths on her and strip her clothes and we watched the same 35 minute Strawberry Shortcake video for 2.5 hours until she finally fell back to sleep just before Jeff got home at 2am. So needless to say, we didn't make the 930am or 10am parade that we were planning on going to as Kaitlyn slept in until 9:45. The cause of the fever still remains a mystery. She started with a runny nose on Saturday and we found out that she had an ear infection on Tuesday so maybe it was one of those. She also got a strange rash on her feet on Wednesday - so it was quite the week!
I got some relief from my back pain on Monday and Kaitlyn seemed to be feeling okay so we went ahead with some of our other plans. We had lunch at Grandma Jo's and spent some quality time playing with family.
Grandma Jo made each of the grandkids a treat - their name written out in finger jello!
Grandma Jo also had sparklers for the kids to do. Kaitlyn did such a great job hanging on to it and drawing letters in the air. I was surprised that she wasn't scared of it, as timid as she is! You can't really see the sparkler in her hand.
Later in the day we attended a party at Josie's house to celebrate Josie and Miss Meredith's birthday. How neat that the Mommy and daughter share a birthday!
Josie got a HUGE trampoline for her birthday and Kaitlyn had fun trying it out.
It was definitely not the long weekend I had been anticipating, as I was looking forward to Tuesday instead of enjoying the extra family time, but it was memorable none the less. Thank you veterans and current soldiers for all you did and continue to do to protect the things we hold so dear.
