5 Months Old!

Well, as much as I hate to say it, the 'Honeymoon' is over. For one month we enjoyed some great nights of sleep, only interrupted by Kelsey wanting to eat once or twice, and an hour or so of early morning fussiness. Right around the time she turned five months old, Kelsey got fussier and fussier in the evenings and during the night. She used to be rather easy to get to bed and Jeff handled that task while I put Kaitlyn to sleep. Not anymore. Not sure if its a battle of 'will' or just a comfort thing, but now she wants only Mommy to put her to bed and of ourse Kaitlyn only wants Mommy too - so that has made for some interesting bed times! Not only is she difficult to get to bed, but she just won't stay asleep! She is up 6-10 times a night, and in the last two weeks she has started eating 4 or 5 times a night. Crazy! We know she is teething so that I'm sure is partially to blame. We are looking forward to seeing those bottom two teeth poking through the skin - finally - and then dreaming of a decent night of sleep. All dreaming aside, Kelsey Paige is just a bundle of joy. She continues to be a smiley baby, giving the most smiles and giggles to her 'favorite friend' - none other than Kaitlyn. Kelsey is getting better and better and reaching for things and actually grabbing hold of what it is she is reaching for - especially people's faces and their hair. Every morning Kaitlyn makes me put Kelsey right in front of her and then in the cutest voice says, "Come and get your Big Sissy" and sure enough - Kelsey grabs right for KK's hair and face. So precious! Besides faces, Kelsey reaches for and grabs nearly everything in sight - crayons, cups, water bottles, paint brushes, pop tarts - you name it - whatever Big Sissy has, she wants. I guess I new that day would come, but I didn't expect it so soon. For now we all just giggle at how quick and determined that Kelsey is at reaching something ... I am sure that in the near future, Kaitlyn if not the rest of us, will stop seeing the humor in it. For now Kelsey Paige, we just love watching your little mind work, seeing what it is that you want to play with as you pick out your own toys, seeing that bright smile and hearing that contagious laugh! Kelsey hates riding in the car and I would say on the average, I end up pulling over to put her paci in at least three times in a 15 minute car ride. Kaitlyn is a big help and will pass toys to her but most of the time, toys or no toys - she just screams. On the other hand, Kelsey loves to be outside, playing in her saucer or walker or just hanging out in stroller. When she gets fussy at bed time, Jeff usually just holds her and walks up and down the driveway and she calms down and goes to sleep. Sometime during the last month Kelsey earned the nickname of 'Boomer'. I know - not so cute, no so girlie ... but it has stuck with her. I think it started from Kaitlyn hearing me say 'Rah-rah - Sis-Boom-Bah' or whatever that silly rhyme is. So for awhile we were calling her 'Sis-Boom'. But it ended up as 'Boomer' and now Jeff and I refer to both the girls by that name these days - one if 'Little Boomer/Boomie' and the other 'Big Boomer/Boomie'. Too funny! We gave Kelsey her first biter biscuit on her '5 Month Birthday'. She loved it. Pictures of that to come! Thank goodness they make a dairy free/soy free/corn free version! We also got out the walker as a new toy for Kelsey to play in. She loves it, especially when we put her in it outside int he driveway. We said 'good bye' to the Bumbo near Kelsey's 5 month mark, as she successfully arched her back enough to pop her legs free from the chair!!! Can you say determined?! For the record, she is eating every two hours during the day and anywhere from every 2-4 hours at night. She naps for only about 30 minutes at a time, usually at 9am, 12pm, 4pm and sometimes an evening nap around 6ish. She is now on Milk of Magnesium to 'keep things moving' and survived her second bout with Thrush after her four month shots thanks to a 2 week dose of Diflucan. Enjoy these pictures of my littlest Sweetie Pie!
